Old Pueblo Dreams
A VICTOR STEVEN ROSENBERG Image
I painted ‘Old Pueblo Dreams’ back when we were living in Tucson. There was no plan—no subject, no destination. I just picked up my brushes, laid down color, and let the painting take me where it wanted to go. Somewhere along the way, shapes began to emerge, forming something close to surrealism—though I’ve never been one for labels.
This piece came straight from the subconscious. The longer you look, the more you find—bulls’ heads, shifting skies, faces, fish, ancestors holding everything up from below. And in the middle of it all, the Old Pueblo rises, like a dream still unraveling in the morning light.
Painting, for me, is a kind of meditation, a space between this world and another. ‘Old Pueblo Dreams’ is about letting go of the map and trusting the journey—both in art and in life.
